Size Requirements for Graphics

Inches, millimeters, or picas: which measurement will you use to size your graphic?

Most charts, graphs, and tables are sized to be one column width (3.5 inches, 88.9 millimeters, or 21 picas) or two columns width (7.16 inches, 182 millimeters, or 43 picas wide).

IEEE recommends that you avoid sizing graphics to less than one column wide, as extreme enlargements may distort your images and result in poor reproduction. Keep in mind, it’s easy for IEEE to reduce the sizes of your graphics but, in most cases, cannot increase them without negatively impacting quality.
